Achille D'Orsi

Achille D'Orsi (13 January 1845 - 1929) was an Italian sculptor.
He was officially present with his works at the "Esposizione internazionale d'arte di Venezia" (Venice Biennale) four times in 1909, 1914, 1924 and 1928.
== Biography ==
Achille D'Orsi was born in Naples, considered one of the classic Italian sculptor specializes in the production of bronze sculptures.
De Martino studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli was a student of Tito Angelini and Tommaso Solari, perfected his art with a stay in Rome, before returning to live in Naples.
D'Orsi adheres to the current of realism and became famous with his works' 'Parasites'' (now kept at the Gallery of Modern Art in Florence), ''La vecchia'' (The Old) and ''Il Venditore'' /The Seller), was a success in the headlines of the Exhibition of Naples in 1877. These works were proposed again the following year in the 'Universal Exhibition of 1878 held in Paris.
The consecration came three years later with the art work ''Proximus Tuus'', in the art Exposition of Turin.
At the beginning of XX century D'Orsi continues to achieve consensus with its participation in the Venice Biennale, where he exhibited works such as ''The Council of Trent'' (1909), ''Roman decadence'' (1914), ''Ancient Egypt'' (1924) and ''Aeolus'' (1928).
During his career he was commissioned numerous busts and portraits; among these the monument to Umberto I of Italy, the monument to the philosopher Bernardino Telesio, the busts of Filippo Palizzi and Salvatore Farina.
One of his great marble statues of Alfonso of Aragon is located in front of the facade of the Royal Palace of Naples and is part of the series of eight kings of Naples.
His most famous pupil was the Neapolitan sculptor Giovanni de Martino.
